From October 31st to November 2nd, 2024, ENERGIES 2050 is co-organizing the 5th Annual Conference on Women in Leadership and Decision-Making, which will be held in Kpassa, in the Oti Region of Ghana. The event is organised by the LINEENBAAL Women Association and focuses on the theme \u201cInfluencing Sustainable Agroecology: A Pathway to Climate Justice and Resilience – Opportunities for Optimizing Women\u2019s Leadership Development.\u201d<\/p>\n

With over 3,000 members across northern Ghana, the LINEENBAAL Women Association aims to reduce poverty by creating sustainable income-generating activities. It has trained more than 1,800 women in agro-value chain processing, livelihood improvement and the promotion of climate resilience.<\/p>\n

The conference will explore how agroecology can serve as a catalyst for women\u2019s leadership in the fields of climate justice and resilience. Agroecology, defined as an approach that integrates ecological and social principles into food and agricultural systems, is recognised for its role in strengthening climate resilience, improving food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices. The event will address the disproportionate impacts of climate change on women, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. It also aims to strengthen women\u2019s participation in decision-making processes related to food systems and climate action.<\/p>\n

The conference seeks to bring together women leaders, policymakers, climate action advocates and stakeholders from across the agroecology and climate resilience sectors. The programme includes plenary sessions, exhibitions, field visits and interactive workshops focused on sustainable agriculture, food systems transformation and the role of women in leadership within these fields.<\/p>\n

One of the tangible outcomes of the conference will be the launch of the FARIAD Agroecology Village, a tree-planting initiative covering 20 acres and aimed at strengthening local climate resilience. The project will involve the planting of 5,000 trees and is expected to generate long-term environmental and economic benefits for the community.<\/p>\n
