Stéphane POUFFARY is the founder of the international network ENERGIES 2050, established nearly 25 years ago and formalized as an international association in April 2011. He served as its first President before becoming Executive Director and Honorary President in 2012. Under his leadership, the association has become a reference organization, active in over 70 countries, developing innovative and inclusive solutions to address the major challenges of our time.
Before founding ENERGIES 2050, Stéphane served, among other, as Head of the International Expertise Unit for Energy Management at ADEME from 2000 to 2010, where he oversaw international projects and influenced global climate and energy policies.
With over 35 years of experience in international cooperation and development, Stéphane has worked with international, national, and local institutions, coordinating more than 250 large-scale projects in over 100 countries. He specializes in climate strategies and innovative low-carbon development projects, including mitigation, adaptation, resilience, capacity building, and access to climate finance, all supporting the ecological transition. His work emphasizes a systemic, multi-level, and inclusive approach.
Author of more than 200 publications, Stéphane is also recognized for his academic contributions through international conferences and lectures at universities.
He plays an active role in international climate negotiations and the broader sustainable development agenda (UNFCCC, ECOSOC) and is involved in initiatives such as the Climate Task Force of UCLG Africa, ART’S PLANET, ethiCarbon®, and the Global ABC.
Stéphane embodies ENERGIES 2050’s commitment to climate and social justice, mobilizing stakeholders from all sectors to create concrete and replicable solutions for sustainable and resilient territories.
