Stéphane Bouissou, co-founder of the ENERGIES 2050 association, served as its president from 2012 to 2024, guiding the organization in promoting inclusive and sustainable solutions to address environmental and climate challenges. He embodies a bold and humanistic vision for tackling the major societal challenges of our time, placing climate justice, territorial resilience, and ecological transition at the heart of collective action.
Graduating with a degree in materials science in 1994 and earning a doctorate in Earth sciences in 1998 at Montpellier, Stéphane pursued postdoctoral research at Brown University (USA) before being appointed as a lecturer at the University of Nice Sophia Antipolis in 2000. Since 2009, he has been a professor at the University Côte d’Azur. After working at the Géoazur laboratory on natural hazards, he is now a member of the ESPACE laboratory (UMR 7300), where his research focuses on the resilience of food systems in the face of global challenges.
Throughout his career, Stéphane has combined academic research with fieldwork, supervising a dozen doctoral and postdoctoral students and publishing around 40 scientific articles. A strong advocate for knowledge transfer, he has directed the master’s program CONTRASTE (Conduite des Transitions des Structures et des Territoires) since 2006 and, since 2017, the Diploma in Sustainable Food Project Management, co-developed with the City of Mouans-Sartoux.
Under his presidency, ENERGIES 2050 strengthened its role as a catalyst for sustainable solutions, integrating dimensions of biodiversity, gender, and intergenerational solidarity into its projects. Convinced that addressing climate change and achieving ecological transition require a collaborative approach, Stéphane has mobilized citizens, researchers, and decision-makers to build resilient and inclusive territories.
As Honorary President and member of the Board of Directors, he continues to advocate for policies addressing global challenges, affirming that solutions to planetary crises must be participatory, equitable, and respectful of future generations.
