From October 31st to November 2nd, 2024, ENERGIES 2050 is co-organizing the 5th Annual Conference on Women in Leadership and Decision-Making, which will take place in Kpassa, in the Oti Region of Ghana. The event is being led by the LINEENBAAL Women Association and focuses on the theme “Influencing Sustainable Agroecology: A Pathway to Climate Justice and Resilience – Opportunities for Optimizing Women’s Leadership Development.”

With over 3,000 members across Northern Ghana, the LINEENBAAL Women Association works to reduce poverty by creating sustainable income-generating activities. They have trained over 1,800 women in agro-value chain processing, improving livelihoods and promoting climate resilience.

The conference will explore how agroecology can be a catalyst for women’s leadership in addressing climate justice and resilience. Agroecology, defined as an approach that integrates ecological and social principles into food and agricultural systems, is recognized for its role in building climate resilience, enhancing food security, and promoting sustainable farming practices. The event will address the disproportionate effects of climate change on women, particularly in low- and middle-income countries, and seek to enhance women’s participation in decision-making processes related to food systems and climate action.

The conference aims to bring together women leaders, policymakers, climate action advocates, and stakeholders from across the agroecology and climate resilience sectors. The program includes plenary sessions, exhibitions, field visits, and interactive workshops focused on sustainable agriculture, food systems transformation, and the role of women in leadership within these domains.

A key outcome of the conference will be the launch of the FARIAD Agroecology Village, a 20-acre tree-planting initiative aimed at contributing to local climate resilience efforts. The project will involve planting 5,000 trees and is expected to provide long-term environmental and economic benefits to the community.
