9 October 2025 – RECinMED Online Training on Renewable Energy Communities

administrator

On 9 October 2025, the Campus 4 Impact Academy for Knowledge and Transition, a pedagogical initiative led by ENERGIES 2050, organised an online training session dedicated to Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) entitled “Renewable Energy Communities – Set-up, Operation and Key Challenges.”

The session, delivered in French and designed for French-speaking participants, aimed to strengthen the practical understanding of these collective initiatives, which are playing an increasingly important role in the local energy transition.

Lasting approximately two hours, the training presented the main stages involved in establishing a Renewable Energy Community, addressing in particular governance models, applicable regulatory frameworks, and the technical, organisational and operational challenges associated with their development. Concrete project examples and methodological approaches were also shared to illustrate the different pathways for the creation, structuring and management of such initiatives.

Training modules developed within the framework of the European project RECinMED – “A multitude of inclusive Renewable Energy Communities in the Mediterranean Region” were mobilised during the session, with particular attention given to the project’s territorial specificities and to the various contexts in which energy communities can be developed. Discussions notably highlighted the opportunities and challenges associated with rural areas, islands and urban environments, which constitute the main pilot and experimentation contexts of the project.

The session gathered more than 200 participants from diverse backgrounds, including representatives of civil society organisations, technical teams from local authorities and institutional stakeholders. The exchanges enabled the sharing of practical experiences and fostered a dynamic dialogue on the perspectives for the development of Renewable Energy Communities.

This training activity forms part of the capacity-building and knowledge dissemination actions carried out within the RECinMED project, as well as within the educational activities developed by the Campus 4 Impact Academy of ENERGIES 2050, contributing to supporting local stakeholders engaged in the implementation of sustainable, participatory and territorially anchored energy initiatives.

    RECinMED

RECinMED, involving 11 partners from 9 countries, aims to foster inclusive Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) by testing innovative solutions. It will create a transnational cooperation forum to enhance networks and knowledge sharing on energy communities. Three Working Groups will focus on pilot actions in urban, rural, and island contexts, addressing specific challenges in each area. The goal is to identify, validate, and scale solutions for energy transition across different regions, ensuring broader adoption and positive environmental impact.
