The European project RECinMED, “A multitude of inclusive Renewable Energy Communities in the Mediterranean Region”, was presented during the EnerCMed Mid-Term Conference, held online on 3 October 2025 under the theme “Policy and Instruments for Energy Transition.” The event brought together several European projects and institutional stakeholders involved in the energy transition to discuss regulatory frameworks, operational tools and governance instruments supporting the development of decentralised energy systems.

On this occasion, ENERGIES 2050 participated in the final roundtable of the conference on behalf of the RECinMED project, sharing insights from the project’s work on Renewable Energy Communities (REC) in the Mediterranean region. The discussion highlighted the importance of policy instruments, regulatory frameworks and institutional mechanisms supporting the emergence and development of local energy initiatives.

The conference also showcased contributions from several European initiatives addressing complementary aspects of the energy transition and territorial resilience. These included projects such as D4LA, NRGCom, URWAN, LOGREENER, RENEWPORT, POWER UP and RIP, NUDGES, KOALA Company and UNIGE, as well as the Green Living Areas (GLA) Mission initiative developed within the Interreg Euro-MED programme.

These exchanges highlighted the complementarities between Interreg initiatives and local energy transition dynamics, as well as the need to strengthen policy, regulatory and financial frameworks supporting the development of energy communities and citizen participation in the energy transition.

The participation of RECinMED in this event contributed to strengthening dialogue between European projects and institutional stakeholders while highlighting the approaches developed in the Mediterranean region to promote inclusive and sustainable renewable energy communities.

    RECinMED

RECinMED, involving 11 partners from 9 countries, aims to foster inclusive Renewable Energy Communities (RECs) by testing innovative solutions. It will create a transnational cooperation forum to enhance networks and knowledge sharing on energy communities. Three Working Groups will focus on pilot actions in urban, rural, and island contexts, addressing specific challenges in each area. The goal is to identify, validate, and scale solutions for energy transition across different regions, ensuring broader adoption and positive environmental impact.
