ENERGIES 2050 in Lima

For the 20th Climate Conference
ENERGIES 2050 is actively involved in the fight against climate change and has been heavily involved in the 20th Conference of the Parties (CoP20) under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Lima, 1 to 12 December 2014. This conference is a milestone in the negotiations towards a new international agreement on the post-2020 climate regime, which will have to be adopted in Paris in 2015.
Representatives of ENERGIES 2050 are present in Lima throughout the conference and will be involved in a number of events, including presentations, round tables and discussions on our various fields of activity and our projects on the topic of climate change. ENERGIES 2050 also contributed to several publications related to COP20. We suggest you to discover some excerpts below.
Guide to the negotiations (OIF/IFDD)
The Negotiations Guide and the Summary for Policymakers: Essential Francophone publications to share the necessary knowledge and to allow national delegations and each one to have a detailed analysis and means of action
The Francophone Institute for Sustainable Development (IFDD), a subsidiary body of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF), has been working to improve understanding and understanding of the issues and challenges of climate change negotiations. Publishes a Guide to Negotiations, which is also the subject of a Summary for Decision-Makers. These documents are widely disseminated upstream of each Conference in digital format and during printed conferences. For several years they have been translated into English to meet the demands of English-speaking countries and partners, because such detailed reference documents do not exist beyond the French-speaking world at the moment.
At the 20th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, these documents were prepared by ENERGIES 2050 on behalf of the IFDD.
ENERGIES 2050 has provided editorial direction, co-ordination and is one of the principal authors of the Negotiations Guide and Summary for Decision Makers. These documents provide readers with a history of the negotiations and present an analysis of the various issues to be negotiated in Lima as well as an overview of the Conference’s expectations and a wealth of useful information in the form of the technical sheets.
A portal dedicated to the Lima COP20 was set up on the Médiaterre de la Francophonie portal.
ENERGIES 2050 will regularly dispatch dispatches before, during and after the conference. It will be a matter of regularly disseminating information on the progress of the negotiations.

Friday, December 5, 2014, 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm – Francophone consultation on the current state of climate negotiations
This consultation, organized at the initiative of the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs – in collaboration with the Republic of Senegal (assuming the Presidency of La Francophonie) and the International Organization of La Francophonie – addressed the topic “The state Climate negotiations “. Among the topics discussed were the major challenges for the Lima conference, the status of climate negotiations and financing.
The dialogue was opened by Mr Ndiaye Cheikh Sylla, representing the Presidency of the Republic of Senegal. Welcoming remarks were made by Mr. Stefan Ruchti, Head of the Environment and Sustainable Development Section of the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs of Switzerland and Mr. Ibrahima Dabo, Program Specialist of the Institut de la Francophonie for Development Sustainable Development (IFDD), a subsidiary body of the International Organization of La Francophonie (OIF).
Saturday, December 6, 2014, 10:30 am – 12:30 pm – Side event: experience of French-speaking countries in setting up NAMAs – Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions (NAMAs in French for Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Measures) of the European Union)
NAMAs (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Actions) or MAANs (for Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Measures in French) are voluntary measures taken by developing countries and may in some cases benefit from international support . ENERGIES 2050 intervened on the topic of sustainable habitat in NAMAs.
Tuesday 9 December 2014, 12.30 – 15.00 – French Ministerial Consultation (Room Limatambo 2, Convention Center WESTIN – Piso 3)
This is a consultation between the Ministers and Heads of the French-speaking delegations present in Lima, the representatives of the different categories of actors, whether national or international, and the development partners on their vision for the post 2020 agreement In order to share and discuss on the measures to be taken and the challenges to be met.
Climate Change The New Economy
ENERGIES 2050, together for a sustainable future
The publication COP 20 – Climate Change the New Economy presents various opinions and calls for action by key players in the scientific, business, international, governmental and civil society sectors. It also presents examples of ongoing work to combat climate change.
ENERGIES 2050 is very proud and honored to have been invited to express its vision in COP 20 – Climate Change the New Economy and to be able to illustrate the possibilities for the future that we believe in. ENERGIES 2050 is featured alongside other players in the “Global Voices” section. ENERGIES 2050 examines the challenges posed by climate change and the need to modify our current models of development to meet these challenges and enable a transition to a sustainable and equitable energy future. We also describe several ongoing initiatives.
