Brainstorming workshop on the access of local and regional authorities to climate finance, 7 April 2017, Rabat, Morocco

Context

The pan-African organization United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa), is organizing a workshop on the access of local and regional authorities in Africa to climate finance on 7 April 2017 in Rabat (Morocco).

As a well-known and acknowledged stakeholder in international climate negotiations, ENERGIES 2050 participates in this meeting given its expertise in climate finance..

Objectives

The overall objective of the workshop is to examine the conditions for access to Climate Finance by the cities and territories of Africa, in particular the Green Climate Fund.

Specific objectives include:

– upgrading information on the mechanisms of Climate Finance, in particular the Green Climate Fund;

– identification of prerequisites and elements to be put in place so that the cities and territories of Africa can access Climate Finance;

– defining the content of the capacity-building and technical assistance program to be implemented for the cities and territories in Africa to enable them to prepare applications eligible for Climate Finance, and more specifically to the Green Climate Fund;

– the formulation of recommendations to UCLG Africa so that this organization could become a participant of the Green Climate Fund and other vehicles, for the cities and territories of Africa;

– the development of a roadmap and messages from the brainstorming workshop to COP23 scheduled for November 2017 in Bonn, Germany.
